Finally managed to get some decent photography done, first time in ages.

My usual kit, Pentax K100D with Sigma 10-20mm lens at 10mm, Nodal Ninja 3 tripod head.

Gosh, a long time since my last update. Well over a year!

Still shooting using my Pentax K100D, however recent winter weather has put paid to getting out much.

Hopefully it'll soon be spring!

My first HDR 360 degree panorama.

Having owned a Nodal Ninja 3 tripod head for a while now, I thought it time to try a 360 degree "HDR" panorama of the interior of a local church.

St Fillians Kirk, Aberdour, Fife, Scotland.

Pentax K100D, Sigma 10-20mm lens, Nodal Ninja 3

Only thing I could have done with was a remote shutter release as my finger on the camera shutter did lead to slight misalignment of each exposure. hugin did however do a wonderful job of stitching

A £4 remote release is now on it's way from Hong Kong...

Monitor Calibration

Monitor calibration under linux is now possible using a Colorvision Spyder 2 express, and Dispcalgui. At least I can now work with a calibrated display!

The OS

After dabbling a various operating systems over the years (Win95, Win98 and WinXP), I have generally settled on Linux, running on a home built system. I've tried quite a few different linux distros over the past 5 years, but I always seem to return to Ubuntu as it's quite a user friendly distro which is pretty much ready to run "out of the box".

Perhaps one day I'll be able to afford a top of the range Apple Mac, but for the moment a home built system running with a linux OS is fine for my needs.

Following posts will deal with setting up a colour calibrated monitor, and setting up a workflow from start to finish.

Welcome to my blog on photography and linux

I'm interested in landscape photography, and multi image panoramics, and this blog will deal with setting up a digital workflow using linux, and panoramic stitching using Hugin.

I shoot using a Pentax K100D dslr (hopefully soon to be upgraded to a Pentax K20D), with a selection of lenses. For 360 degree Panoramics I tend to use my Sigma 10-20 F4-5.6 and a Nodal Ninja 3 panoramic tripod head.
